Inner Self

The box is a metaphor of the body. Sealed and unable to open up, it hides the artist’s inner world away from everyone else. A little hole, allows for the sand accumulated inside to slowly escape. As she slowly grows and learns to share her feelings, it acts as an invitation for the viewer to be introduced to her inner self. The use of sand to fill the box has two meanings. It was gathered from the place she calls home so it signifies the biggest part of her life spent there. Thus, it is a symbol of the endless thoughts and feelings she has had throughout her life, which have shaped the person she is today. Just like the sand particles, these thoughts and feelings, regardless of their size or significance as individual ones, whenever brought together as a whole, always feel strong and heavy.
